Livestock farming

Livestock farming is a major industry in China, and livestock facilities are a key element in the meat supply chain. However, odour emissions from intensive livestock production may be a source of nuisance in rural areas. ProC-TOF-MS measurements have, for the first time, provided insights into the temporal variations in odour emissions from intensive pig farming.
The company investigated the photocatalytic degradation of odorous compounds (four reduced sulphur compounds, 1-butanol and four volatile fatty acids). ProC-TOF-MS is a useful tool for studying photocatalysis, and the results of this study can be used to optimise photocatalysis to reduce emissions of unpleasant odours under real-world conditions.”
With regard to odour emissions from poultry litter, the emission rates of certain odour-causing compounds are significantly influenced by the condition of the litter—specifically, whether it is dry or wet—which is crucial for the healthy rearing of poultry. The ProC-TOF online mass spectrometer can provide relevant detection data to guide farmers’ production practices.
