The MSI LDPI laser/photochemical ionisation mass spectrometry imaging source is an innovative mass spectrometry imaging system featuring patented technology; based on open-path laser desorption/ionisation (LDI)/post-photochemical ionisation (PCI) technology, the key to this technology lies in the combination of laser desorption/ionisation with a compact vacuum ultraviolet photochemical ionisation unit, enabling high spatial resolution imaging of a wide range of polar and non-polar molecules, and enhancing the detection of histamine, adenosine, choline, adenine, vitamin D3, cholesterol, glutamic acid, threonine, guanine, ceramides, and various lipids such as fatty acids, PE, PA, MAG, DG, HexCer and GalCer.
Under ambient pressure conditions, the system achieves ultra-high sensitivity; compared with laser ablation alone, signal enhancement can reach 1–3 orders of magnitude, whilst simultaneously achieving a breakthrough spatial resolution of 3 micrometres, giving it a strong competitive edge within the industry. The MSI LDPI-25 provides a molecular imaging solution at the single-cell scale for cutting-edge scientific fields such as life sciences, environmental toxicology and plant metabolism.

Application Examples
Melanoma Imaging
Results showing the distribution of metabolites in the stratum corneum, stratum granulosum, tumour and normal tissue of melanoma skin samples. Analysis of melanoma tissue sections revealed metabolic heterogeneity in the melanoma microenvironment and demonstrated the phenomenon of abnormal proliferation and invasion by tumour cells.

Mouse Hippocampal Tissue Imaging
It is capable of distinguishing between different regions of the mouse hippocampus and the spatial distribution of various metabolic molecules; following optimisation, metabolites in mouse hippocampal tissue can be imaged with a spatial resolution of 4 μm.
